Fortnite has just launched possibly my favorite tie-in event yet, a partnership with Lionsgate to promote John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, out this weekend. Wick has been a key part of Fortnite lore since the “Reaper” skin debuted in the battle pass ages ago, that the entire community called “John Wick” because it…clearly was John Wick.
But now Epic and Lionsgate have made it official. In addition to a badass John Wick Fortnite skin being live in the store right now, plus a pickaxe, some emotes and a wrap, there’s a new LTM called Wick’s Bounty that has you killing other players and collecting gold Continental coins. And as you might expect, there are rewards for completing challenges during the event. Here are the challenges:
- Win a match of Wick’s Bounty (0/1)
- Play matches of Wick’s Bounty (0/5)
- Collect Gold Tokens (0/120)
- Collect Gold Tokens in a single match (0/20)
- Deal damage with the Combat Shotgun (0/500)
- Deal damage with the Tactical Assault Rifle (0/500)
And the prizes? The rewards are good.
Completing any five of the above challenges will get you a Gold Token back bling exclusive to the event:
Winning a match will get you this sick tactical umbrella:
Playing five matches will get you the flat black “Boogeyman” wrap which I already love:
It’s a very cool event, and Epic’s second foray into a licensed deal besides what we saw with the Infinity War and Avengers cross promotions. But the rewards here are better, and we’re moving into new territory with actual celebrity likenesses in the game as skins now, not just characters like we saw with Star Lord and Black Widow (who was definitely not Scarlett Johansson).
The event is running for just under five days, and that should be plenty of time, including this weekend, for you to complete all these challenges, or at least the five you need for the gold coin. Honestly all I really care about out of those are the umbrella and the wrap, and that’s just playing five games and hoping you win one.
I have already bought the John Wick skin in the store because of course I have, and I have a feeling this is going to be an immensely profitable event for Epic, given the affinity for John Wick among the Fortnite community. Whether this does anything to boost ticket sales this weekend is another matter, but a 90%+ score on Rotten Tomatoes is certainly going to help Chapter 3 on its own.
Be seeing you.
