Like all new seasons of Fortnite, Season 9 brought a number of map changes and updates both big and small. This time around we got an updated version of Tilted Towers, known as Neo Tilted, an all new Mega Mall, a new place to explore in the Volcano Area called Power Plant, and number of lesser known changes.
For more on Season 9, check out the 9.00 Patch Notes and our tips page for the Week 1 Challenges. With a few changes to the map, there are now a few new places to explore! Here is a full image of the new and updated map as of the 9.00 patch:
And now for a closer look at each of the changes:
Destruction of Polar Peak
Fortnite: Battle Royale’s update v9.20 finally said farewell to one of the major landing spots on the map. That’s right, Polar Peak is gone. Though the point of interest still appears on the map, the Ice Castle on the location is no more.
The Ice Castle played a major role in the “Fortnite’s” season seven lore and the Ice King event also happened at the same place. Ever since Polar Peak was struck by the volcanic rock in season eight, one side of the mountain had been left with cracks.
Gone But Not Forgotten
Retail Row has become the latest victim of the Fortnite remodel. The shopping strip has been torn down and replaced with an new Mega Mall. Goodbye old friend.
Tilted Towers has also been wiped out to start Season 9. Let’s take a minute to remember its former glory.
The last major landmark to be removed as part of Season 9 is the Volcano. It caused a lot fo destruction in Season 8 of Fortnite, and now it has been destroyed. What goes around comes around, I suppose.
New Points of Interest
While there are a ton of smaller areas and newer points of interest to check out in Fortnite, three new named locations take the spotlight. The first is Neo Tilted, the futuristic Tilted Towers. The second is the Mega Mall, an updated version of Retail Row. The third is the Power Plant, which replaced the Volcano.
Goodbye Tilted Towers and hello Neo Tilted. After being destroyed by lava in the last days of Season 8, Tilted has been rebuilt to Neo Tilted, an all new futuristic version.
After getting hit by lava, Retail Row has gone under construction and is ready for the grand opening of the Mega Mall.
There are some new buildings that have gone up where the Volcano used to be. The new Pressure Plant offers tons of new places to explore.
Futuristic Loot Lake
The future has come for Loot Lake! The core building have gotten a nice face lift along with a new power cord structure running through Loot Lake and across the map. Make sure to check out Loot Lake while you’re completing the Week 1 challenges!
Junk Junction Clock
Despite a few upgrades to locations across Fortnite, Junk Junction remains mostly the same. However, it seems the remains of the Tilted Towers Clock Tower has landed in Junk Junction.
There are 7 new Sky Platform located all over the map. Each one hovers in the air and has a tower on top of it. Make sure to visit all 7 locations to complete one of the Week 1 challenges!
Slipstrems are the newest form of transportation in Fortnite. They are essentially wind tunnels that connect all over the map. Hop in one and go for a ride! You might want to ride around the new Neo Tilted and then the Mega Mall to complete one of the Week 1 challenges.
The Block has been updated and features a design from Makamakes_YT. The Block features a house surrounded by water and a nice boat. Be sure to check it out and pick up some great loot!
