Best weapons in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1: Ultimate gun tier list

With a reworked loot pool and a new set of weapons, Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 has shaken up the ‘best weapons’ in the game. Now that the dust has settled on the seasonal update, a tier list has formed.

Chapter 3 of Epic Games’ hit battle royale Fortnite introduced loads of changes to the Island, not least the map itself, but the biggest update is actually the loot pool, with pretty much the entire Chapter 2 range vaulted and replaced by brand new guns.

The powerful MK-Seven Assault Rifle, the first AR to have red-dot sight aiming in Fortnite, has already risen to the top of the rankings, while shotgun fans will be disappointed to know that neither the Auto nor the Striker Pump are worth using this season.

It’s safe to say that Chapter 3 Season 1 has really switched things up. It’s left many players scrambling to figure out which weapons are the best – and which ones are worst. We’re here to help.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 best weapons ranked

Tents are a great way to store the best weapons in Fortnite Chapter 3.

These are all of the current weapons in Fortnite Chapter 3 ranked from best to worst:

  1. MK-Seven Assault Rifle
  2. Stinger SMG
  3. Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
  4. Spider-Man’s Web Shooters
  5. Sidearm Pistol
  6. Ranger Assault Rifle
  7. Auto Shotgun
  8. Striker Pump Shotgun

Our ranking has been formed by taking into account stats, community feedback, and our own in-game experiences since Chapter 3 Season 1 launched in December 2021.

Below, you’ll find each weapon separated into tiers, as well as stats and a description of how well they all perform. Naturally, the S Tier represents the best in class, while the D Tier should probably be avoided.

As always, this ranking could end up shifting around as Epic Games rolls out Fortnite patch updates with new weapons and old classics throughout the season. But for now, this is how the state of play looks.

Fortnite S Tier Weapons

WeaponDPSReload TimeMag SizeImage
MK-Seven Assault Rifle2252.8 seconds35
Stinger SMG2642.25 seconds30

Most of the traditional S Tier weapons in Fortnite like the Rocket Launcher and the SCAR – the Legendary version of the Assault Rifle – have been vaulted in Chapter 3, so we’re left with just two weapons in the big leagues: The MK-Seven Assault Rifle and the Stinger SMG.

Both of these weapons deal incredible damage per second and are essential if you’re looking to claim a Victory Crown. The Stinger SMG is great for dealing close-to-mid-range damage, while the MK-Seven Assault Rifle’s red dot sight is perfect for long-range takedowns.

Fortnite A Tier Weapons

Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle63.363 seconds3
Spider-Man’s Web ShootersN/A2 – 10 seconds80

The Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle isn’t the best sniper we’ve seen in Fortnite (that award goes to the now-vaulted Automatic), but it’s your only option right now so it’s good to have one. Besides, a well-timed headshot can still bag you a one-shot kill on an enemy without full Shields.

We’ve also put Spider-Man’s Mythic Web Shooters in the A Tier, despite not being an actual weapon, as they’re a really useful item to have in your loadout. Not only do they make evading the Storm a breeze, but they can also be used for a quick getaway when you’re about to be eliminated.

Fortnite B Tier Weapons

WeaponDPSReload TimeMag SizeImage
Sidearm Pistol209.251.26 seconds15
Ranger Assault Rifle1482.25 seconds25

We never thought we’d be putting a pistol in the B Tier (previously, they’ve always been D Tier or C Tier at best), but the Sidearm Pistol has actually proven its worth on quite a few occasions, dealing an impressive amount of damage at close range – particularly headshots – with a very fast reload time.

As for the Ranger Assault Rifle, it’s pretty average as far as ARs go, but with such a small weapon pool this season it does have its uses – especially if you don’t like the MK-Seven Assault Rifle’s red dot sight. Besides, anything is better than this season’s shotgun selection…

Fortnite C Tier Weapons

WeaponDPSReload TimeMag SizeImage
Auto Shotgun1387.2 seconds8

On paper, the Auto Shotgun sounds like a great upgrade from the regular shotguns of previous seasons, and it does have a solid damage-per-second capability. But in reality, it’s just not worth using, mostly due to a shockingly slow reload time of 7.2 seconds. Miss your shots, and you’ll probably be eliminated.

Fortnite D Tier Weapons

WeaponDPSReload TimeMag SizeImage
Striker Pump Shotgun68.644.5 seconds5

There’s just one weapon in our D Tier this season, and that’s the Striker Pump Shotgun. This might come as a surprise, seeing as shotguns have been overpowered in the past, but it seems Epic went the other way with this one as it’s far too slow for close-range gunfights.

We’ll be sure to update this ranking when more weapons get vaulted or unvaulted as Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 progresses, so check back soon to make sure you’re using the very best weapons on offer.

That’s it for our Fortnite Chapter 3 weapons tier list. The addition of new weapons has left things looking quite different from previous seasons, and there are more to come as the season progresses.

Chapter 3 Season 2 Live Event: Everything we know so far

The first live event of Chapter 3 is expected to take place in less than six weeks. Here’s everything we know so far, based on various leaks.

Leaked Map Stages

All future stages for the territories controlled by both The Seven and Imagined Order have been leaked by data-miner Hypex. The maps show the Resistance will retake control of most of the Island, leaving only Command Cavern and Loot Lake for the IO. The final stage will lead the story directly into a live event, with the Imagined Order having little options left for victory.

Leaked Quest Voice Line

Epic also recently added new voice lines for the upcoming Week 6 Quests which, when reviewed closely, appear to tease the main story of a new live event. The Agent Jones character claims “one of the IO’s Doomsday devices is now in production”, seemingly hinting that the new event could be related to Chapter 2 Season 2’s The Device, which was also focused around a “Doomsday Device”.

A transcript of the Agent Jones voice lines can be found below:

“This will not come as a surprise, but IO management loves Doomsday machines – loves them! There’s even a doomsday division at HQ, oh man their softball team is awful but they will one day destroy us all so… kind of a wash. We have very credible intel that one of the IO’s Doomsday devices is now in production. We need to find out everything we can while we still can. Hit the field, I’ll prep the cameras . . . I have a very bad feeling that we are not ready for what we’re gonna find out.”

Doomsday Landmark

According to Fortnite data-miner GMatrixGames, a new Landmark code-named ‘DDMachine’ has been added to the game’s tags, suggesting that the Doomsday Device described by Agent Jones could be added to the map in the future.

Less than six weeks remain until the potential live event. We’ll keep you updated with the latest leaks and official announcements.

Boogie Bomb and Rift-To-Go Unvaulted Until April 25

In preparation for the upcoming item vote, the Boogie Bomb and Rift-To-Go have both been unvaulted for a trial period until April 25.

Players can now find the items scattered throughout the Island from Chests, Llamas, Supply Drops, Loot Sharks and ground loot. Once the short trial period ends on April 25 at 8AM ET, new gold funding stations will go live in-game on the following day to let players “fund” the item they want to see return permanently (for the rest of Season 2). The item that becomes 100% funded first will automatically be reintroduced to the loot pool as soon as the goal, of which the exact value is unknown, is reached.

We’ll keep you updated on which item gets unvaulted.
